made on slide

This was very easy to build (also a very quick and short sign-up process).
You can load pictures up on the Slide site or just have the Slide site link them over from another picture hosting site. For this short little slideshow I just linked the pictures from some that were up in one of my picasa albums. The great thing about this linking method is you don't need to wait for the picture to upload.

I'm going to do some more and check out the uploading from my computer.

Oh - these some pictures I took while in London some years ago.

might give up on imageshack

I've tried a few different ways to upload pictures to imageshack. So far only the one picture at a time method from their web interface works for me. They even have a Mac dashboard widget for uploading - but for me - it just hangs up - no pictures transferred. I thought the ftp method would be a great way to go - but again I couldn't get that to go either. I think the tools and the site in general is more set-up for windows. It could also be some set-up problem I have but the I-photo plug-in that connects to Picasa works easily, so I probably will take the route of least resistance.

Picasa's web album has a slide viewer for visitors but it currently doesn't have the slide show feature that can be posted to another site like this blog.

It's a big world with many options - I going to try another slide maker

uploading and free image hosting

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

This is being hosted at the free site www.imageshack.us

Here's a link to a blog about imageshack.

I am starting to try this web site so as you can see I have two very different sized pictures. The next feature I will try is their slideshow.

Picasa options on web album

From frm-net

Here's photo I found on the web and loaded in my picasa web album. I posted it here by using the "Embed in blog" option that's given for individual pictures.

Here's a similar posting but with the "Hide album link" checked:

The small difference is the "From ---" link is not shown under the picture.

A more interesting option is to embed the whole album:
This option is found on the album view page and like the individual picture embedding, is done with copy/paste of provided html code. The picture shown is the "cover" picture for the album. The choice of which way to go would come down to the number of pictures in the album in my opinion.

  • music taken from a podcast and edited in garageband
  • pics and music combined in imovie
  • export to .mov file (2Mbyte)
  • uploaded to youtube account
  • embed blogging html code into blogger
  • write up posting
  • email family friends
  • wait for insults

Picasa detail I found

Some details about Picasa.
Your Picasa Web Albums account is free and comes with 250 MB of storage space -- enough room to store about 1000 photos (at 1600 pixels each). It's also possible to upgrade and order additional space (up to 250GB) as your photo storage needs grow. And unlike some other photo sharing sites, Picasa Web Albums retains the quality of your images so you and your site's visitors can download those same high resolution photos off the web and to their computers.

I recently learned more about the way the web albums works. You can select any picture and get html code to embed in a blog (like the pic above) or other web page. When a visitor clicks on that embedded picture their browser goes to the web album the picture is located. Ok, that seems good because they will see a bigger version of the picture. The interesting thing is after they are in the web album they can go to any picture within that album. So if you want to keep visitors from seeing some pictures but allow other pictures, you need to keep them in separate albums. (earlier I mentioned that Picasa allows you to select private or public album settings)

Oh this picture is at a cool B&B that Mary and I visited some years back.

Picasa example

After uploading to your Picasa web album, you can easily select a picture, click on the "embed in blog/myspace" next to the picture and then copy/paste the code into your blog.

Some other services offer this too. Over the next few posts, I'll write about my experiences with them.

Oh, any guesses on the picture location??

My daughter should be writing here

Since she is MY daughter, I like to think she learned it all from Dad. How can explain this when she teaches me new things?

She's the one who told me about the Mac support within Google's Picasa Web Album.

Just today, youngest daughter (21) explained and set-up Google's Picasa application for oldest daughter (31). I must admit she knows some windows related stuff that I don't.

Great things about Picasa ---
  • Both Windows and Mac support (maybe Linux too?)
  • Good sharing features - both easy and good control
  • Downloads of original picture provided
  • Free

best computer for pictures

Having used both Windows (should be spelled windoze) and Mac for over 15 years, I prefer doing any picture manipulation on the Mac. So basically, I'm a Mac guy that had to use Windows. This blog is not about which is better. Oh, I should bring Linux into the discussion too. I have a little experience with Linux and think it should just stay on the servers (not the desktop).

This Mac/Windows thing should not matter here because the focus is the internet based tools and web sites.

need to get this thing going

Procrastination - guess what? we all get tangled up with it sometimes. The post title link describes three types and explains how one type is a benefit. I think the opposite of this problem is being focused. guess what? being too narrowly focused can be a problem too. Is all about a good balance.

So enough "thinking about it" and little more action.

So the topics here are:
  • digital pictures
  • photo montages
  • internet business
  • internet trends

As always - please comment
